The Eres spirit The Maison Eres signs collections of swimwear and lingerie whose style and architecture emphasize the natural femininity of the body. The beginning of Eres
In the late 1960s, a few days before summer, female customers were in a hurry to pick out their swimwear. These were uncomfortable times with the fear of stripping off sometimes meeting the thrill of treating themselves to a chic and becoming item that would show them in a beautiful, sporty light. The swimsuit fascinates and disturbs, captivates and frightens. It is, after all, the most intimate of clothing after lingerie. Female emancipation was still in its early stages and yet women had never been so close to independence. Irène Leroux sensed the profound change afoot in French society. In 1968 she decided to take over her parents' sports shop. Meeting a Brazilian customer who took advantage of her time in Paris to purchase several swimsuits, the founder of the brand decided that she would supply the item all year long and thus specialise in its manufacture and marketing. The decision was a bold one, the initiative ambitious. While leisure and sporting activities were on the rise, the swimsuit offer was poor, standard and available in the summer months only. Eres thus became the first brand to supply swimsuits all year round. It was also the first brand to sell tops and bottoms separately, allowing women to not only choose their favourite, possibly mismatching styles, but also to opt for differently sized pieces.
Body architecture
Eres believes in a natural look and loves nothing more than simplicity. The brand took swimsuits still reminiscent of corsets and removed the stays; it then did away with the underwire too. These features were replaced by the cut of the fabric, seams and finishes which provided the necessary support. The design of the swimsuits was as meticulous as the sculpting of a piece of artwork. While keeping things natural was the priority and basis for the line, it was also important to push the boundaries of ingenuity to achieve a good fit. A revolutionary fabric made this possible: it is a raw material, in a way. And that's body architecture: modelling a fabric against the skin and delicately and gently reshaping the contours of a silhouette. The support of innovative and exclusive fabrics In 1968, Eres adopted the recent lycra thread invention. The brand then came up with Peau Douce, its first invention, created with the help of an Italian supplier. An exclusive blend of polyamide jersey, the fabric is lively and elastic with unparalleled stretching properties. As soft as the skin, hence the name, the aptly-titled Peau Douce offers real comfort and hugs the body so well that it fits like a glove. Next up was the lingerie collection's supple Tulle which moulds to the skin, light as a breath. Then there was the fine and lively Jersey Lumière with its transparent effects and second skin feel. The arrival of lingerie The brand was formed back in 1968. Three innovations then emerged: the exclusive Peau Douce fabric, the option to purchase tops and bottoms separately and the decision to sell swimsuits all year round and not in the summer months alone. Twenty years later came the first Eres lingerie collection, ushering in a new brand of femininity, in complete contrast to the clichés of the time. While other lingerie brands are recognised for their provocative sensuality and padded or push-up styles, Eres stands out through its minimalism and the understatedness of its styles. The aim is to offer clean, uncluttered lines bordering on austere: the ultimate in elegance. Know-how and innovation
Stripped down to the bare minimum, the Eres lingerie shapes are pure, simple and contemporary. The triangle has become the signature Eres cut. This wireless bra, which nonetheless offers the desired support, is structured by fancy cuts, elastic, finishes and bands: a subtle assembly that only an expert hand can master. It alone encompasses all of the workshops' technical expertise. This purposeful minimalism creates an elegant and subtle seduction underpinned by innovative fabrics offering comfort, freedom and hold. The fabrics are resistant and flexible, the colours and accessories solution-dyed and specially designed, and the styles solid and of impeccable quality. The modern lines are based on traditional techniques from artisanal heritage, which has inspired Eres with shimmering silks, and precious Leavers and Puy lace. Subtly transparent and understated tulle has become the brand's new fabric of choice. The Vous-et-Moi stitch enhances certain styles with a delicate touch. Powdery tones emerge under a radiant sheen. Technique for femininity The brand relentlessly pursues its technical excellence, from its Research and Development department through to its quality processes. Laser cut-outs combined with machine assemblies ensure robust products. The result of years of research, the fabrics with such sought-after second-skin comfort are continually improved and controlled. The feel, elasticity and colour are studied and each fabric is assessed, tested and approved to guarantee Eres certification. There really is such a thing as sensual high-tech. In praise of simplicity Eres has been breaking the rules of traditional beachwear since its beginnings, eventually moving on to traditional corsetry. The 'minimal requirement' rule is thus rooted in the brand's identity. And what is the Eres style? Timeless but not classic, fancy but not provocative and feminist but not arrogant. Minimalism wins out over embellishment: graphic design takes precedence, purity dominates and the 'no logo' philosophy stands firm. Never giving in to trends, Eres has been able to consolidate its style and create a current, timeless image. Its styles are instantly identifiable, even when enhanced through the seasons with new features such as notched hems, rings and metal links or buttons. Creativity and modernity
At Eres, creativity, fashion and modernity are closely linked. The brand works at the pace of a Fashion House with the collections presented twice a year as a ready-to-wear collection would be, comprising wardrobe essentials. The extreme quality of cuts and finishes points to a couture design. The cuts are executed to perfection with the styles adapting to all body shapes. The neat finishes and meticulous details are perceivable to those in the know: beautiful fabrics front and back, Vous-et-Moi stitch, triangle inserts, lumière thread, etc. The art of the exclusive colour
Aside from the tailoring, there's the art of the colour. Delicate, bright and natural, the colours all belong to Eres which, unlike other brands, develops them itself. The palettes, which change from one year to the next, feature assorted hues, muted tones and bright colours. Continually updated with new pigments and softer than traditional black, the faux-blacks offer a touch of subtlety. Eres has also succeeded in pushing forward skin, powder and make-up hues, launching the nude concept in the lingerie and swimwear sector. The philosophy of pleasure This combined know-how forms a unique mosaic behind a style expressing distinct and modern femininity. Enhancing the body without cheating is the brand’s philosophy. At Eres, women can dress for pleasure and for any occasion. The lingerie collections are a harmonious complement to the swimwear, the Homewear reminiscent of the Beachwear. Over or under, hidden or on show, the pieces remain against the skin, as she alone desires.
