Restaurant The Five Flies has since long been known worldwide as a must-do in Amsterdam. The five 17th century houses still serve their purpose gracefully. We are proud to maintain the heritage of Nicolaas Kroese and his restaurant, which he founded in 1939, for future generations. When entering the restaurant, it even feels like going back in time. The walls are lined with original gold leather wall paper, original etchings by Rembrandt and Old Dutch style decoration. Today you can still enjoy an outstanding dinner with a good glass of wine in the setting this restaurant is famous for. Kroese appeared on Broadway, New York, with an antique cage housing five copper flies. His strange talent for Public Relations, charisma and impressive appearance soon drew the attention of the media. Innumerable film stars, musicians and writers found their way to his restaurant. Amongst them Walt Disney, Danny Kaye, Orson Welles, Kirk Douglas, Bruce Springsteen, Mick Jagger and Michail Gorbatsjov. These days, every chair in the restaurant carries a small copper plate engraved with the name of a famous person that once visited the restaurant. Whose seat are you going to dine on?
